Sage Finds Summer: A Sage Spencer Story

Brooklyn-raised, Jamaica rooted, 10 year - old Sage Spencer feels like she's in a class by herself, and not in a good way. Papa died a few months ago and this is the start of her first summer vacation without his over-the-top family vacations. With most of her friends taking exciting trips away from the city and the temperatures already at sticky degrees, Sage expects the next 9 weeks to be endlessly empty.

But then things take an unexpected turn. The destruction caused by Hurricane Maria to Puerto Rico blows in new neighbors with a problem Sage understands and can hopefully fix! With her culture and faith behind her, a prized possession, and her family's courage to hope, can Sage still have a summer when nothing is the way it used to be?

Excerpt from Chapter 2 - Ice Cream With A Sprinkle Of Words On Top

"Sage, did I ever tell you what my aunty used to call a day like today?"
"Hot?" Sage answered, hoping Mommy didn't hear her annoyance.
If there was a moment she totally was not feeling one of Mommy's "When I was a girl in Jamaica" stories, this was it. But she knew better than to say that.
"Well, whenever I had a day when I felt upside down, aunty told me to look around myself, open my eyes, and see about someone else...you know, you can see much more when you take your eyes off yourself, Sage."
